Watford boss Giuseppe Sannino recalled winger Ikechi Anya and striker Fernando Forestieri for the 4-0 Boxing Day win over Millwall and could start with the same side.Left-back Daniel Pudil (hamstring) and defender Hector Bellerin (hip) should be fit to play after injury.QPR striker Charlie Austin (hamstring) missed the Boxing Day defeat at Nottingham Forest and remains a doubt.
Midfielder Joey Barton is available after serving a one-match ban.

Head-to-head
The teams were last in the Championship together in 2010-11 when both meetings ended in away wins. Watford won 3-1 at QPR before Rangers won 2-0 at Vicarage Road in a match which sealed their promotion to the Premier League.
There has not been a goalless draw between the teams at Vicarage Road since a Division Three (South) fixture in April 1958. The last 28 meetings here have all produced at least one goal.
Watford have won six out of the last eight meetings at Vicarage Road, where the sides have not drawn a match since a top-flight meeting in August 1984.

Watford
Watford's 4-0 win over Millwall on Boxing Day brought to an end their run of 10 matches without a Championship win. It was their first victory since 5 October.
They had lost five consecutive home matches prior to Thursday's victory over Millwall, and have won just five of the 13 matches played at Vicarage Road in all competitions so far this season.
Watford are hoping to record back to back Championship victories, something they have not done since the opening two games of the season.

QPR
QPR lost 2-0 at Nottingham Forest on Boxing Day, therefore suffering consecutive Championship defeats for the first time this season. Defeat at Forest followed a 1-0 home defeat by Leicester last Saturday.
In all, Rangers have won just one of their last four matches, a 2-0 win at Blackpool on 14 December.
QPR have won just one of their last seven matches away from Loftus Road. In those seven matches they have lost three and drawn three.

Swansea remain without Michu, Michel Vorm and Nathan Dyer, all of whom are recovering from injury.Angel Rangel and Wayne Routledge could return to the starting line-up after beginning on the bench at Aston Villa. Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart is available despite requiring five stitches in a gash under his left eye.
David Silva is suspended after amassing five yellow cards, but Alvaro Negredo, Yaya Toure and Pablo Zabaleta may return after being rested on Saturday.
It's generally agreed that the rest of this Premier League season is going to be fascinating, at both ends of the table.
Manchester City are a point behind leaders Arsenal, and know that victory in the early New Year's Day fixture will see them reclaim top spot, even if only for a few hours. As these matches are the return of the games played a month ago memories will be fresh for both teams of the encounter on the opening day of December in Manchester.
The home side won 3-0, but Swansea put in a good performance, and the post-match comments from Michael Laudrup make interesting reading. The Swans boss said that while his team are very good players, Manchester City's are world-class.
Swansea don't have a hugely impressive home record this season - they are one of six Premier League teams who have recorded only two home victories this campaign.
I was at their last; an impressive demolition of Newcastle just a few days after losing at the Etihad Stadium. And Swansea will certainly take heart from the fact that although their opponents are perfect at home, with 10 wins out of 10, they have lost four times on their travels already.
2014 is a year when the main focus will be on the World Cup in Brazil. But before then Manchester City and Swansea both have ambitions domestically and in Europe. I really enjoy watching both teams, and this match should be an entertaining start to what hopefully will be a fantastic year of football.
Whoever you follow, I hope you enjoy it, Happy New Year.

Head-to-head
The Swans have lost three of their five Premier League games against Manchester City (W1, D1), failing to score in all but one of those matches.
The exception is their 1-0 win at the Liberty Stadium on 11 March 2012, when Luke Moore scored a late winner. That is their only victory against Manchester City in 31 years.
Manchester City have failed to score in their two previous trips to the Liberty Stadium.

Swansea City
The Swans are winless in their last five league matches, although three of those games ended in draws.
In all competitions, the Welsh side have won just twice in 15 matches (D7, L6).
Swansea took 39 points from their 37 Premier League games in 2013, compared to 55 points from 39 matches in 2012.

Manchester City
Victory would see Manchester City win back-to-back Premier League away games for the first time under Manuel Pellegrini. They last accomplished the feat on 29 December 2012 and 13 January 2013, winning at Norwich then Arsenal.
Manchester City have taken 22 points from their last 24 available in the Premier League.
In all competitions, they have won 10 of their last 11 games.
Their tally of 54 Premier League goals is the most by any side in their opening 19 games.

Reading have won on two of their last four visits to the Riverside Stadium.
Five of the previous 22 League matches played between the teams have ended 0-0.

Middlesbrough
Middlesbrough are looking for a third consecutive Championship win. They beat Championship leaders Burnley 1-0 on Boxing Day to follow up a 2-0 win at Millwall. This is the only time this season they have recorded back-to-back wins.
It is also the first time this season that they have gone two games without conceding a goal.
Middlesbrough have lost just one of their last 10 matches played at the Riverside. Only Brighton have triumphed there since the opening day of the season.
Boro have scored in 11 of the 12 matches they have played at home this season. Only Brighton have prevented them from scoring in a home game.

Matt Mills, Lee Chung-Yong, Medo and Andre Moritz are all available.

Head-to-head
Leicester and Bolton meet for the 69th time in all competitions. Leicester have won 21, there have been 21 draws, and Bolton have won 26.
Four of the last five league meetings between the teams have ended in draws. The only positive result for either side in the last five matches was Leicester's 3-2 win at the King Power Stadium in April.
Bolton have not won any of the last five league meetings between the teams. Their last league success against Leicester was a 5-0 win at Filbert Street on the opening day of the 2011-02 Premier League season.

Leicester City
Leicester returned to the top of the Championship table on Boxing Day with a 1-0 win against Reading.
They are looking for a third consecutive victory after wins against QPR and Reading, both by a 1-0 score line.
Leicester have collected 26 points from 33 available at home so far this season. Only Queens Park Rangers can equal the Foxes home record.
The last time Leicester went top of the Championship table, on 30 November, they failed to win any of their following three League matches.

Bolton Wanderers
Bolton's 1-0 Boxing Day win at Barnsley was only their second win in six Championship matches.

Bournemouth midfielder Harry Arter picked up his fifth yellow card of the season against Yeovil on Boxing Day and serves a one-match suspension. Defender Steve Cook (hamstring) is out, while back-up goalkeeper Darryl Flahavan (thumb) is a doubt.Ipswich manager Mick McCarthy is likely to name an unchanged side for the fifth successive match.
Midfielder Ryan Tunnicliffe is set for the final appearance of his spell on loan from Manchester United.

Head-to-head
This is the first competitive meeting between the two sides since a two-legged League Cup tie in 1996-97, which Ipswich won 5-1 on aggregate.
They last met in league competition in 1989-90 in the old Division Two. Bournemouth beat Ipswich 3-1 at home after a 1-1 draw at Portman Road.
Ipswich have not won a league fixture at Bournemouth for 60 years. They gained a 3-2 victory in Division Three (South) in September 1953.
That success is Ipswich's only win in a total of 14 league visits.

Bournemouth
Bournemouth won 3-0 at home to Yeovil on Boxing Day to record back-to-back Championship victories for the first time this season.
Leicester and Middlesbrough are the only other Championship teams to have recorded two wins from their last two matches.
Bournemouth have collected nine points from the last 12 available, from wins against Reading, Sheffield Wednesday and Yeovil.
Thursday's win over Yeovil is their only win in their last five home Championship matches.

Ipswich Town
Ipswich won 3-0 at Doncaster on Boxing Day and are unbeaten in their last six Championship matches. Only Derby and Birmingham are enjoying a longer current unbeaten run in the Championship.
Mick McCarthy's side have won four and drawn two of their last six matches.

Chelsea midfielder Ramires received his fifth yellow card of the season against Swansea and will serve a one-match suspension. Manager Jose Mourinho will rotate his squad, meaning Cesar Azpilicueta is likely to return in place of Ashley Cole and Fernando Torres could start. Liverpool's Jon Flanagan could again be absent with a hamstring problem.
Steven Gerrard, Jose Enrique and Daniel Sturridge remain out until the new year. There's always been a bit of niggle, or should that be nibble, in matches between Chelsea and Liverpool. The appearance of Luis Suarez at Stamford Bridge is certain to provoke the home fans into a chorus of disapproval, though I honestly believe that the Uruguayan is one of those players who'd be disappointed not to be booed by opposition fans.
Every photographer will have a lens ready to capture any tasty exchanges between the Liverpool striker and Branislav Ivanovic.
In contrast, Jose Mourinho and Brendan Rodgers are likely to indulge in a display of mutual admiration based on the fact that the latter was first youth, and then reserve-team manager, at Chelsea when the former was in charge at the Bridge for the first time.
Rodgers' Liverpool side emerged with plenty of credit in their game at Manchester City but with no points, so avoiding defeat at Stamford Bridge is crucial.
The league is so tight that the Liverpool team which was top at Christmas could be out of the top four by New Year - I'll take a punt that that's never happened before.
Liverpool should be encouraged that they have lost just one of their last eight games against Chelsea, though they'd have preferred that defeat not to have been in the FA Cup final.
This game should be a personal landmark for John Terry, who will make his 600th Chelsea appearance - assuming he plays. Only Ron Harris, Peter Bonetti and Frank Lampard have made more.
It will also be a 150th game for Chelsea for Fernando Torres; that's eight more appearances than he made for Liverpool, but he's scored 40 fewer goals for the Blues than he did for the Reds.
Scoring is Chelsea's big difficulty. Samuel Eto'o has been putting in performances which add considerable weight to the theory that Didier Drogba, and not Eto'o, is the best striker Africa has ever produced, whilst Demba Ba continues to show why he's being used sparingly.
Between them, Chelsea's three strikers have scored five Premier League goals this season; that's a total matched by Norwich's Gary Hooper - and that says it all.

Head-to-head
Chelsea have won only two of their last 13 Premier League matches with Liverpool (W2, D4, L7).
But five of Chelsea's last seven league wins against Liverpool have come under Jose Mourinho.
Luis Suarez scored a second-half equaliser in both league meetings with Chelsea last season.

Chelsea
The Blues have only lost one of their last eight league games.
Jose Mourinho's side have now kept two clean sheets in a row in the league after only keeping one in their previous 11.
Mourinho has won 54 and lost none of his 69 Premier League matches as a manager at Stamford Bridge.

Liverpool
Liverpool have only won one of their last six away games in the league (D2, L3): a 5-0 win at Tottenham.
They have scored 29 goals in their last 14 trips to London in the Premier League (2.07 per game).
The Reds have conceded a total of only three goals in their last nine end-of-year games.

Injured Aston Villa pair Ron Vlaar and Christian Benteke will again be missing for Saturday's visit of Swansea.Midfielder Ashley Westwood is available after serving a one-match ban. Swansea boss Michael Laudrup is expected to freshen up his side, with the likes of Wilfried Bony, Pablo Hernandez and Jonathan de Guzman all in contention to start. However, the quartet of Michu, Nathan Dyer, Michel Vorm and Garry Monk remain sidelined by injury.
Given the recent fortunes of these two clubs you sense this fixture has taken on greater significance, with an opportunity to end the year on a high.
Villa have now lost four games in a row, while the excursions of the Europa League mean Swansea have taken just 10 points from the last 10 games.
Paul Lambert says it is his job to look upwards but the harsh reality of his team's situation is that they are very much looking over their shoulder.
They are just one point better off than this stage last season, when they endured a long winter before their positive end to the campaign. The biggest concern will be their home form. They have lost six of their nine games at Villa Park this season but the problem is more deep rooted - the home supporters have seen only 11 victories in the last 47.
Villa haven't scored in five of their last six games at home and their total of only six goals is the worst in any of the four top divisions. It is little wonder the natives are restless.
There will be anxiety in the air and Swansea will look to capitalise on that. Michael Laudrup's team have won more games away than at the Liberty stadium.
Despite the fact they are without the injured Michu and are waiting for record signing Wilfried Bony to really start firing, only eight teams have scored more goals than them so far this season.
Whatever the outcome, the Welsh side will look back on 2013 with fond memories. A fifth straight defeat for Villa and they will certainly be glad to see it end.

Head-to-head
Swansea have lost eight of their nine previous league trips to Villa Park, failing to score in all eight defeats. Their solitary win was by 2-0 on 2 January 2012.
This is only the 22nd meeting between the sides. Aston Villa have won 15, Swansea four and there have been two draws.

Aston Villa
Aston Villa have lost four successive league matches. They have not lost five games in a row since January 2001.
They have lost more than half of their last 47 Premier League matches at Villa Park, earning just 45 points in that period (W11, D12, L24).
Paul Lambert's side have not scored in five of their last six Premier League home games. Villa's tally of six goals at home is the lowest in the division and they are the only side yet to score in the first half in front of their own fans.
Villa have failed to score in half of their league matches this season, the joint-worst record in the division.

Swansea
Swansea are enduring a four-match winless streak (D2, L2), their worst run of the season.
They have only won two of their last 10 league matches.
The Swans have benefited from five own goals this season. Apart from when Manchester United had 10 in 2009-10, no team has had more than six in one season.
They are unbeaten after scoring first (W5, D2) but have only taken two points from 10 games after conceding the opening goal.

Hull goalkeeper Allan McGregor and midfielder David Meyler are both unlikely to be fit after suffering knee injuries against Manchester United. Alex Bruce is struggling with a calf problem sustained in the same game. Fulham goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg has not recovered from an ankle injury so David Stockdale will again deputise.Forward Dimitar Berbatov missed the win at Norwich with a groin injury but could be fit enough again to feature against Hull. The visit of Fulham to the KC Stadium will bring back many fantastic memories for Hull City supporters. Their Premier League debut was against the London club in August 2008 when they came from behind to pick up all the points. That victory set the tone for an impressive start to life in the top flight, and incredibly the Tigers were third by the end of October. However, a dramatic downturn in form saw them tumble down the table and they came perilously close to being relegated, surviving the drop by just one point.
Some fans might be concerned that a similar fate awaits this time as a solid start has given way to a run of poor results, with Steve Bruce's side managing just two wins since September.
Early joy on Boxing Day turned into bitter disappointment as they threw away a 2-0 lead over champions Manchester United to lose 3-2 and end the day just four points above the relegation zone.
It's Fulham who occupy that final relegation spot. But there's a new swagger about the team since Rene Meulensteen replaced Martin Jol as head coach.
They have rediscovered the winning habit, enjoying victories over Norwich and Aston Villa, and although they were thrashed at Everton, they pushed Spurs and Manchester City all the way before losing.
With fellow strugglers West Ham and Sunderland coming to Craven Cottage early in the New Year, there's a real opportunity for Fulham to climb away from trouble.
A first away win on Humberside since 1996 would be a huge step in the right direction.

Head-to-head
Hull have won three of the four Premier League meetings between the sides.
Hull beat Fulham 2-1 in August 2008 in their first top-flight game.

Hull City
Hull are without a win in five league games (D3, L2).
They let in three goals against Manchester United on Boxing Day, having conceded just three in total in their previous eight home matches this season.
Nonetheless, no team has conceded fewer goals at home than Hull (six).

Fulham
Fulham have lost eight of their last 10 Premier League matches.
They have performed better away this season than at Craven Cottage, earning nine points from their nine away matches, as opposed to seven from nine home matches.
Rene Meulensteen's side have conceded 35 league goals, more than any other top-flight team.

Manchester City's fit-again defender Matija Nastasic could be recalled against Crystal Palace, having been among the substitutes on Boxing Day.Martin Demichelis missed that match because of injury, and Sergio Aguero, Micah Richards and Stevan Jovetic are all still out. Crystal Palace forward Marouane Chamakh is available after suspension. The recalled Yannick Bolasie impressed in the 1-0 win at Aston Villa and may keep his place.
Notwithstanding their fully-merited Boxing Day win against Aston Villa, you fear for Crystal Palace at the Etihad Stadium. But, then, you fear for any side visiting Manchester City this season. Christmas leaders Liverpool had the temerity to open the scoring at the home of the 2012 champions on Boxing Day but they eventually succumbed to defeat, just like every other Premier League visitor before them.
Yes, Liverpool worried City and the hosts benefitted from one or two controversial decisions, but Manuel Pellegrini's side demonstrated they can dig in when not at their devastating best.
Nonetheless, devastating has been City's default setting, of course.
They have put seven goals past Norwich, scored six against both Tottenham and Arsenal and four against Manchester United and Newcastle. In fact, four goals in a home match works out as below average for City this season!
Avoiding defeat on Saturday would seem an impossible job for Tony Pulis. Then again, keeping Crystal Palace up seemed an impossible job when Pulis was appointed in November. Four wins - and clean sheets - in seven games have followed as the Eagles have flown the prickly nest of the relegation zone.
The stoppage-time goal by Dwight Gayle that earned them victory at Aston Villa on Boxing Day was a top-class strike from a player who Pulis had publically doubted beforehand was ready for the Premier League.
Plenty of people have thought the same about the Crystal Palace squad in general this season, but Pulis has marshalled his side into an organised and tenacious bunch.
They have not, though, faced a side as ruthless and rampant at home as Manchester City. The visitors will need to summon all of their recently-acquired qualities, and ride their luck, to prevent a comfortable home victory.

Head-to-head
Crystal Palace have lost their last three trips to Manchester City and are winless in seven attempts since a 2-0 top-flight victory on 22 December 1990.

Manchester City
City are the only team in the Premier League this season yet to drop a point at home. They have also scored in each of their last 59 Premier League home games.
If they score on Saturday, City will break their own Premier League record of 53 goals from the opening 19 games, set in 2011-12.
They are unbeaten in their last seven league matches (W6, D1) but are attempting to earn four successive wins for the first time under Manuel Pellegrini.
City are unbeaten in their final game of the year since returning to the Premier League in 2002-03 (W5, D6).
Alvaro Negredo has scored in each of his last nine appearances at the Etihad Stadium.

Crystal Palace
Tony Pulis has won nine points from his six Premier League games in charge of Crystal Palace - two more than Ian Holloway and Keith Millen won combined from 12 matches.
The Eagles have kept five clean sheets in their last eight league fixtures.
They have only taken one point from their nine games against top-half opposition.
Palace have scored the fewest goals in the division (12) and failed to recover any points from losing positions.

Norwich midfielder Jonny Howson missed the draw at Sunderland with a back injury and is a doubt to face Fulham. Russell Martin has overcome an ankle problem, while fit-again striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel is pushing for a start. Fulham forward Dimitar Berbatov is an injury doubt as he continues to struggle with a groin strain.
It is in defence where manager Rene Meulensteen has his biggest problems, with both Brede Hangeland (back) and Philippe Senderos (abductor) ruled out.
There's no doubt this is a deliciously unpredictable Premier League season at the top of the table, and I doubt it's ever been more intriguing towards the less desirable end either. Norwich, for me, are one of this season's great mysteries. Have the Canaries ever in their history had a squad so full of genuine attacking quality? Van Wolfswinkel, Hooper, Elmander, Redmond, Becchio. On paper, it's a squad which should be wreaking havoc in the attacking third yet Norwich are averaging less than a goal a game.
That concerns the fans greatly, who long to see a less risk-averse team with the handbrake finally released. Facing a team in the bottom three is surely the ideal time for that.
Carrow Road is special for me - it's where I made my Match of the Day debut, nine years ago to the day. City failed to score then (losing 2-0 to Spurs), and have never actually scored a home Premier League goal on Boxing Day.
Fulham's Premier League longevity has never been based around a good away record, but right now they need to start picking up points regardless of the venue. A run of three points from a possible 27 suggests a malaise which will test Rene Meulensteen's credentials to the absolute limit.
The new manager's start has been undermined by injuries - especially defensively. The losses of Brede Hangeland and Phillipe Senderos for the Christmas mini-season will hit hard.
Dimitar Berbatov may return at Carrow Road, but his output of just three Premier League goals offers some insight into why Fulham will have taken their Christmas turkey in the bottom two.
Historically, mind you, this has proved a fruitful fixture for Fulham. Norwich haven't won this game in any competition since 1986.
This meeting will doubtless prove anxious, tight and edgy. Winning it may come down to which manager is bold enough to risk losing it.

Head-to-head
Fulham are unbeaten in their last 12 matches against Norwich in all competitions (W9, D3). They have scored 27 goals during this period and conceded just four.
Norwich have only lost three of 17 league games at Carrow Road (W6, D8, L3) this calendar year.
Fulham's joint-biggest win in Premier League history was 6-0 against Norwich in May 2005, a day that saw the Canaries relegated.

Norwich
Norwich are unbeaten in their last three league matches (W1, D2) - it's their longest run without defeat this season.
Chris Hughton's side have kept six clean sheets so far this season; only Everton, West Ham (both eight) and Tottenham (seven) have more.
This is the Canaries' fifth Premier League fixture on Boxing Day. They failed to score in any of the previous four (D1, L3).
Gary Hooper has scored four goals in his last seven matches, including three in his last three appearances at Carrow Road.

Fulham
It is just three points from a possible 27 for Fulham (W1, L8).
Fulham have only won one of their previous 11 Premier League matches played on 26 December (W1, D6, L4); a 2-0 win at home to Southampton in 2003.
Dimitar Berbatov has scored five goals and contributed five assists in six Premier League appearances on 26 December.
Berbatov is one of only five players in Premier League history to score a hat-trick on Boxing Day (Manchester United v Wigan in 2011).

Newcastle United are without suspended midfielder Cheick Tiote, who received his fifth booking of the season against Crystal Palace.Jonas Gutierrez is nursing a calf problem and will be assessed.Stoke midfielder Stephen Ireland is available again, having missed the win over parent club Aston Villa under the terms of his loan agreement.Defender Robert Huth will miss all of the Potters' festive fixtures as he recovers from a knee operation.
This is something of a Christmas treat for the Toon Army: a rare home game for them to enjoy on Boxing Day.
They certainly have been enjoying the football served up by Alan Pardew's side over the last couple of months. Since October, Newcastle have won six of their eight matches to soar up the table. Once concerned about being on the fringes of the relegation battle, talk is now of Europe - and not necessarily another crack at the Europa League. While others debate which of the Merseyside clubs might qualify for the Champions League, few consider Newcastle. And that's probably the way the Geordies like it. Pardew has done a magnificent job in remobilising his squad into an exciting, efficient unit. Once again his Frenchmen are to the fore, with the flair of Yohan Cabaye, the energy of Moussa Sissoko and the goals of Yoan Gouffran to name but three.
But it's not just a Gallic tale. Don't underestimate the industry of Cheick Tiote and Vernon Anita, the class of Fabricio Coloccini and goalkeeper Tim Krul.
With Arsenal visiting St James' on Sunday, the temptation will be to consider Stoke as easier opponents. That could be dangerous because, like Newcastle, the Potters have hit a rich seam of form with recent impressive victories over Aston Villa and Chelsea.
Mark Hughes insisted through the dark days of September and October that his team would get better and so it's proved.
Their four-game unbeaten run is their best for over a year. Charged with taking Stoke on to another level, the Welshman is currently on course to do just that. They're 10th in the table and under Tony Pulis they never finished in the top half.
Securing a rare win at Newcastle would strengthen their case considerably.

Head-to-head
Stoke have won just once at St James' Park in all competitions since 1976 - a 2-1 victory in 2010.
Newcastle have won three of their last four matches against Stoke, including a dramatic last-minute 2-1 victory at St James' Park last March.
Yohan Cabaye and Papiss Cisse have both scored three goals in their last three league appearances against Stoke, while Jon Walters has scored in four of his last five Premier League appearances against Newcastle.

Newcastle
They have lost just one of their last eight league matches (W6, D1, L1).
The Magpies have scored in 14 of their last 15 league games.
It will be a year to the day on Boxing Day that an English player last scored a league goal for Newcastle United (James Perch against Manchester United).
They have lost six of their last seven Premier League matches played on 26 December - although this is only their second home game in the last 12 seasons to be played on Boxing Day.
A win in this fixture would be their 200th victory at home in the Premier League.

Stoke
This is Mark Hughes' longest unbeaten run as a Premier League manager since March 2011, when he was in charge of Fulham.
The Potters have lost only one of their last 16 league matches in December and are unbeaten in their last 12 since losing 3-0 at Manchester City on 21 December 2011.
Like Newcastle, they have lost just one of their last eight league matches (W3, D4, L1).
This is the third time in six seasons in the Premier League that they have had 21 points after 17 matches. Their lowest tally was 20 points, in 2008-09.

Southampton full-back Nathaniel Clyne has returned to training following a hamstring injury and will be assessed.Captain Adam Lallana began on the bench last weekend because of a minor injury, but could reclaim a starting spot. Tottenham's Andros Townsend is out with a hamstring injury, while Younes Kaboul and Jan Vertonghen are also sidelined.Midfielder Paulinho serves the second game of a three-match ban, but skipper Michael Dawson is available after serving a suspension in midweek.
A chaotic week of defeat and upheaval at Tottenham isn't about to get any easier with this trip to the south coast to face Southampton.
It all started with that 5-0 drubbing at home to Liverpool last Sunday and while commentating on the match it struck me at the time how poor Tottenham were on the day, even allowing for the absence of half the regular defence through injury and Liverpool's excellent performance. Since then we've seen Andre Villas-Boas swiftly sent on his way, Tim Sherwood minding the shop in the interim and West Ham scoring twice in the last 10 minutes of Wednesday's League Cup quarter-final to compound Tottenham's week of woe.
Sherwood wasn't sure if he'd be taking the team for this one when asked following the midweek cup exit, but I think we can assume he will, while the hierarchy continue the search for a successor.
Lying in wait on Sunday lunchtime will be a Southampton team who've impressed many this season, but have hit a bump in the road lately and are without a win in their last five league games.
Failure to beat Spurs will equal their longest run without a victory under Mauricio Pochettino. But in recent years this has been a fruitful fixture for them, with Saints winning five of the six encounters between the clubs at St Mary's.
However, it was Tottenham who came out on top last season, winning this corresponding game 2-1, and they go into the weekend with the Premier League's joint best away record.
Tottenham are looking for a third win in a row over Southampton but victories at St Mary's are hard to come by. Southampton have only conceded six goals at home all season and three of those came in one match against Aston Villa, who inflicted their only home defeat of the season so far.

Head-to-head
Tottenham won 2-1 away to Southampton last season but they have lost their five other matches at the St Mary's Stadium without scoring.
Spurs are chasing a third successive win against Saints.

Southampton
Saints kept six clean sheets in their first nine league games, but have failed to keep a shut-out in their subsequent seven matches.
They have failed to win their last five top-flight games (D2, L3). If they don't beat Spurs it will equal their longest winless run under Mauricio Pochettino.
Southampton have not won any of the eight Premier League matches in which they conceded the opening goal this season (D5, L3).

Tottenham Hotspur
Andre Villas-Boas won 29 of 54 league matches in charge of Spurs (D12, L13).
He had a higher win percentage (53.7%) in Premier League matches than any other permanent Tottenham boss.
Spurs have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last six Premier League matches, conceding a total of 16 goals.
They have claimed 16 points from their eight away games this season. Prior to this weekend, that was the joint best record in the top flight (with Arsenal).

Reading's Danny Guthrie is set to return from suspension after missing last weekend's 1-0 win at Huddersfield.Midfielder Chris Baird (ankle) will also be in contention but the Royals are still without defenders Wayne Bridge and Sean Morrison (both knee). Wigan's new boss Uwe Rosler is set to make several changes for their trip to the Madejski Stadium.
Striker Grant Holt (knee) is still sidelined, while Callum McManaman is likely to return to the squad.....Danny Guthrie returns to the Reading squad for Saturday's Sky Bet Championship clash with Wigan at the Madejski Stadium.
Guthrie missed last weekend's 1-0 win at Huddersfield through suspension after collecting five yellow cards this season.
Fellow midfielder Chris Baird will also be in contention if he can prove his fitness following a sprained ankle.
But the Royals, who will kick off in fifth spot, are still without defenders Wayne Bridge and Sean Morrison (both knee), midfielders Jem Karacan (cruciate) and Mikele Leigertwood (ankle) and striker Jason Roberts (hip).
Wigan boss Uwe Rosler, meanwhile, has vowed to shuffle his pack again, jokingly suggesting he will bring in as many as eight new faces to the starting line-up.
A Latics XI featuring five changes were beating Sheffield Wednesday in midweek until persistent downpours forced the match to be abandoned at Hillsborough, with the likes of Grant Holt, Ivan Ramis and Emmerson Boyce not even in the matchday 18.
Striker Holt, via his Twitter account, assured fans he was being careful with a knee injury from earlier in the season while Callum McManaman, who was so impressive against Bolton last Sunday, is another likely to return with Rosler insisting he has specific plans in mind for the Madejski Stadium clash.
Goalkeeper Ali Al Habsi (knee) was on the bench in Sheffield and is nearing a return to full fitness, giving Rosler a quandary over whether to pick him ahead of Scott Carson, while Gary Caldwell (hip) played for the development squad on Monday but Shaun Maloney (shoulder) and Juan Carlos Garcia (ankle)

Head To Head
The teams have met on 38 previous occasions, all of them in League competition. Reading have won 14, one fewer than Wigan's 15 wins, and there have been nine draws.
Wigan scored three goals in both matches against Reading last season, when both teams were in the Premier League. The Latics won 3-0 at Reading in February after a 3-2 win at the DW Stadium in November 2012.
Jordi Gomez scored a hat trick in Wigan's 3-2 win at the DW Stadium last season.
The last six meetings between the teams were all in the Premier League - they last met at Championship level in 2004-05, when they drew 1-1.

Reading
Reading lost their unbeaten home record a fortnight ago. They were beaten 2-1 by Bournemouth, bringing an end to their run of nine home matches unbeaten since the start of the season.
Reading have scored in nine of their 10 home matches so far this season - the only team to keep a clean sheet at Reading were Brighton, who left with a 0-0 draw.
Reading have scored exactly one goal in each of their last four home matches.

Wigan Athletic
Wigan's 3-2 win over Bolton last Saturday ended a run of six consecutive defeats in all competitions. It was Uwe Rosler's first win in his second match in charge of Wigan.
Wigan have won just two away games in the Championship, at Barnsley on the opening day and at Yeovil. They have lost 10 of their 14 away matches in all competitions.
Wigan have scored in only four of their 14 away matches played in all competitions.

Millwall right-back Alan Dunne (knee) will face a late fitness test ahead of the visit of Middlesbrough. Josh Wright has been recalled from his loan at Leyton Orient while Nicky Bailey (knee) and fellow midfielder Richard Chaplow (groin) are still out. Middlesbrough defender Jonathan Woodgate (thigh) will be assessed ahead of the game at the Den.
Striker Marvin Emnes (hamstring) has a chance to return but goalkeeper Jason Steele (ankle) will not be involved......Millwall will check on Alan Dunne ahead of Saturday's Sky Bet Championship clash with Middlesbrough at The Den.
Right-back Dunne suffered a badly-gashed knee during last weekend's 3-2 defeat at Blackburn and was replaced by Justin Hoyte.
But Hoyte cannot play as he is on loan from Boro while boss Steve Lomas admitted he was considering changes at the back anyway following the Ewood Park display, so Danny Shittu and Shane Lowry are in contention for recalls.
Boro old-boy Nicky Bailey (knee) and fellow midfielders Richard Chaplow (groin) and Lee Martin (hamstring) are still out so Lomas has recalled Josh Wright from his loan at Leyton Orient. Middlesbrough defender Jonathan Woodgate, meanwhile, is battling against injury to be ready.
The 33-year-old limped off at half-time in the 1-0 home defeat by Brighton with a thigh problem and his condition is being assessed ahead of the game at The Den.
Striker Marvin Emnes missed the defeat by the Seagulls with a slight hamstring injury, but he has a chance of returning after nursing the strain this week.
However, goalkeeper Jason Steele (ankle), striker Kei Kamara (knee) and full-back Andy Halliday (hernia) will not be involved.

Head to Head
Millwall did the League double over Middlesbrough last season, winning 3-1 at the New Den before a 2-1 win at Middlesbrough in February.
Both teams have scored in each of the last five meetings.
It is almost 110 years since the team's first meeting, an FA Cup tie in February 1904, in which Middlesbrough won 2-0 at Millwall.

Millwall
Millwall have the worst defensive record in the Championship this season, they have conceded 40 goals in their 20 matches.
Millwall are unbeaten in their last seven matches at The New Den - winning four and drawing three.
They have kept just two clean sheets in 11 home matches in all competitions.
Millwall have won just two of their last 11 matches, all of which have been in the Championship.

Middlesbrough
Middlesbrough have won just one of their last seven matches, a 1-0 win against Bolton on November 30. This is their only win under Aitor Karanka.
Since the appointment of Karanka, Middlesbrough have won once, drawn once and lost three.
Boro have not won an away match since their first away game of the season, a 1-0 win at Charlton. This was their only clean sheet on the road this season.
Their 2-2 draw at Birmingham in their last away match brought to an end a run of five consecutive away defeats.

Winger Paddy McCourt (hamstring) is a doubt, so Jim O'Brien is on stand-by....Leeds have a doubt over Danny Pugh ahead of Saturday's Sky Bet Championship clash with Barnsley at Elland Road.
Pugh has started the last six matches for Brian McDermott's side, but is struggling with a knock and could have a late fitness test.
Centre-half Scott Wootton, yet to appear since early November after recovering from an ankle injury, is in contention after completing 90 minutes for the development squad, while fellow defender Adam Drury and winger Dominic Poleon played in the same match.
Noel Hunt is closing in on a return following a hamstring injury, but although fellow striker El-Hadji Diouf returned to training this week after returning from Africa, the Senegal international is unlikely to feature.
Barnsley boss Danny Wilson, meanwhile, could be boosted by the surprise return of striker Chris O'Grady for his first game since returning to take charge of the club for a second time this week.
O'Grady has missed the last five games due to a calf strain, but returned to training this week and Wilson will assess the seven-goal forward on the day.
Winger Paddy McCourt is doubtful after being forced out of last week's home draw with Yeovil due to a hamstring injury, so Jim O'Brien is on stand-by.
Goalkeeper Luke Steele remains sidelined with the back problem that has kept him out since September.

Head To Head
Barnsley have won on only one of their last seven visits to Elland Road, a 2-1 win in November 2011.
Both meetings last season ended in home wins - Leeds won 1-0 at Elland Road thanks to a Luciano Becchio penalty. Barnsley won 2-0 at Oakwell.
There has not been a goalless draw between these teams since April 1983, encompassing the last 27 meetings.

Leeds United
Leeds have won five of their last six matches at Elland Road - their draw against Watford in their last home game ended a run of five consecutive home victories.
They have scored in 10 of their 11 home matches played in all competitions - on the only occasion they failed to score they lost 1-0 to QPR, one of only two home defeats this season.
Leeds have scored 19 home goals in the Championship so far this season. Only Derby have registered more home goals in the division.

Barnsley
Barnsley have collected just four points from 30 available away from home so far this season. Their only away win was a 2-1 win at Brighton under caretaker Micky Mellon, who was replaced by Danny Wilson as permanent manager on Tuesday.
They have lost eight of their 10 Championship matches away from Oakwell this season.
Barnsley's total of four points on the road this season is the lowest away points total in the whole of the Premier and Football League.

Watford will be boosted by the return of defenders Joel Ekstrand (suspension) and Lloyd Doyley (hamstring).

Manager Giuseppe Sannino will take charge for the first time after replacing Gianfranco Zola this week....Sylvan Ebanks-Blake is available to make his Ipswich debut in Saturday's Sky Bet Championship clash with Watford at Portman Road.
The striker, a free agent following his departure from Wolves at the end of last season, signed for Town on Thursday on a deal until the end of the season.
Otherwise, Mick McCarthy has a fully-fit squad as Town aim to extend their unbeaten run to five matches against a Hornets outfit who are winless in nine and will be led by new head coach Giuseppe Sannino.
Town frontman Paul Taylor missed last weekend's goalless draw at Nottingham Forest due to illness but is likely to have recovered.
Former Chievo boss Sannino was appointed as Watford's new manager on Wednesday in the wake of fellow Italian Gianfranco Zola's resignation, with the Hornets winless in nine matches following last weekend's 1-0 home defeat to Sheffield Wednesday.
Sannino is boosted by the return of defenders Joel Ekstrand and Lloyd Doyley from suspension and a hamstring injury respectively.
However, Marco Faraoni (ankle) now faces a couple of weeks in the treatment room and joins Almen Abdi (foot), Essaid Belkalem and Tommie Hoban (both ankle) on the sidelines.

Head To Head
Ipswich and Watford have met 66 times in all competitions. Both teams have won 25 matches and there have been 16 draws.
Both meetings last season ended in away wins, when neither side scored a home goal. Watford won 2-0 at Portman Road after Ipswich had won 1-0 at Watford.
Watford have not lost on any of their last eight visits to Portman Road, a run stretching back to March 2004. They have won on six of those last eight visits and are looking for a fourth consecutive win at Ipswich.
None of the team's last seven meetings have ended in a draw.

Ipswich Town
Ipswich are unbeaten in their last four. A run of three consecutive wins ended with a 0-0 draw at Nottingham Forest last weekend.
Ipswich's 0-0 draw at Nottingham Forest last weekend was the first time this season they had been involved in a 0-0 draw.
They are looking for a third consecutive home win, and have scored in all but 1 of their 10 home matches so far in all competitions.

Watford
Manager Gianfranco Zola left Watford on Monday after a run of nine games without a win. They lost 1-0 at home to Sheffield Wednesday last Saturday in Zola's final match on charge.
Watford have drawn their last four away games, each by a different score, 1-1 at Brighton, 2-2 at Middlesbrough, 0-0 at Burnley and 3-3 at Leeds. All these matches were in the Championship.
Watford have scored two or more goals in six of their 11 away matches played in all competitions this season.

Derby's leading goalscorer Chris Martin is an injury concern after suffering a shin injury in training.England Under-21 international Will Hughes is set to return to the squad as Steve McClaren's side go in search of seventh successive league victory. Doncaster's on-loan QPR full-back Yun Suk-Young has resumed training after his recent ankle injury.
Harry Forrester is available for selection as he aims to make only his second league appearance of the season.....Derby have an injury concern over their leading scorer Chris Martin ahead of Saturday's Sky Bet Championship clash with Doncaster at the iPro Stadium.Martin took a whack on the shin in training this week and the 13-goal striker will be assessed ahead of the game on Saturday as the fourth-placed Rams look to record a seventh successive league victory - something the club last achieved during the promotion-winning season of 1995/96.
Will Hughes is set to return to the squad after missing last weekend's win at Charlton through illness. Jeff Hendrick replaced the England Under-21 international against the Addicks and completed his first 90 minutes of senior football since August, having recovered from an ankle injury.
On-loan defender Zak Whitbread continues to work his way back from a calf injury that has kept him out of action since October.
Yun Suk-Young and Harry Forrester, meanwhile, could be pushing for places in the Doncaster squad.
Suk-Young resumed training last week after a month out with an ankle injury and the on-loan QPR full-back has a chance of being involved on Saturday, while forward Forrester has been blighted by a series of problems since signing for Rovers in the summer.
Midfielder Paul Keegan is another player likely to come back into contention over the Christmas period with manager Paul Dickov believing that early in the new year his squad will be as close to full fitness as it has been at any stage this season.
If Doncaster were to revert to a 4-4-2 formation at the iPro Stadium that could mean a recall for Mark Duffy, or a wide right role for former Ram Theo Robinson.

Head To Head
This is only the 22nd meeting between Derby and Doncaster in all competitions. There has never been a 0-0 draw between the teams.
Derby completed a Championship double over Doncaster the last time the teams were in the same division - winning 3-0 here before a 2-1 win at the Keepmoat in 2011/12.
The last eight meetings between the teams have produced 24 goals.

Derby County
Derby have found the net on 42 occasions so far this season and are the leading Championship goalscorers.
The Rams are seeking a seventh consecutive win in the Championship.
This is their longest run of consecutive victories since they won eight in a row in all competitions between December - February 2006-07.
The best Championship run by any team this season is seven straight wins for Burnley in September and October.

Doncaster Rovers
Doncaster have lost their last two matches by the same 3-0 scoreline, away at Bolton and at home to Leeds
Their only win from 10 away matches played in the Championship was a 1-0 win at Sheffield Wednesday in September.
Doncaster have scored just one goal in their last five away matches and have not scored more than one in an away fixture since a 2-2 draw at Wigan on 20 August.
